Divorce can often bring a number of terrible issues to mind – lives torn apart, bank accounts drained, and emotions cast aside.  While there is little pleasant about divorce, the unfortunate reality is that divorce is a fact of life.  The United States consistently has the highest divorce rate in the world. 

There is no one cause for divorce as any number of factors can contribute to the downfall of a marriage.  Sometimes a divorce can be attributed to a specific act of fault such as adultery, physical cruelty or some other significant event; however, sometimes spouses simply come to the realization that their marriage is simply over.

The reality of the entire divorce process is that few people ever give advance thought to a divorce.  Rarely do people decide to consult or visit a divorce attorney when no marital problems exist.  However, by doing a little homework and by understanding the issues that typically present themselves in a divorce, people can save not only time and money but they can minimize the personal and family trauma that often accompanies a divorce.
